At harvest & rowe, vegetables and fruits are the staples of the menu. Most of our menu items are gluten-free and has many options that will fit your dietary choices or requirements.
Today, as we have been since 2003, we are here to brighten your day with a smile, delicious, healthy nutrition, personal service and some great fresh-baked treats!
THE TRUE THINGS IN OUR FOOD
Our suppliers are also longstanding contributors to the local artisan food community in the Bay Area. We have worked with many for up to 12 years and they are as much of our family as are you and the h&r team members. Please meet a few of them.
SOOP of Berkeley exclusively distributes their gourmet, house-made soups to harvest & rowe. The Veritable Vegetable keeps our juice bar full of premier Bay Area organic produce. Harvey at Kali’s makes addictive vegan ginger snaps. And our espresso bar is full of beans from Graffeo Coffee of North Beach, a fine, family-owned roaster since 1935.
h&r’s design comes from cooking and nature. The west and south-facing windows and high ceilings bring in the most possible natural light. The leaf-embossed copper counter represents the copper pots in our kitchen, and the leaves remind us amidst the office towers and concrete that nature is nearby. The tables are from recycled pine and the 15-foot rough sawn window bar was a beam recovered from an old barn in Bodega Bay. The floor colors are earthy, the walls reminds us of a setting sun, the green accents remind us of… salad leaves! Which of course we love.
We are proud to be an option for delicious, nutritious food and we welcome you to our light-filled and spacious café on one of the most walked streets in downtown San Francisco. Enjoy a meal at our community table, window bar, a private table, or one of our many outdoor tables on a sunny day.
WHY WE’RE HERE
In 2000, Alison Rowe saw that downtown San Francisco should have a cafe with healthy, gourmet, house-made and locally sourced ‘fast’ food. With three years of planning, harvest & rowe opened at 55 Second Street in September, 2003.
Ever since she was a kid, Alison loved food, cooking and baking, and those memories inspired the creation of harvest & rowe. Summers in her youth were nourished by vegetables from the family garden, blue crabs she caught in the nearby river, and her mom’s homemade lemonade, which was also offered in Alison’s lemonade stand on the street corner. Her dad's gluten allergy had her baking gluten-free treats from her youngest years to this day.
After more than a decade on 2nd Street, we know many of our customers by name. We hope that you become someone we serve every day as well. Whether you work in the neighborhood or stop by for a quick bite on your way from the Montgomery Street BART to cheer the Giants to another World Series title, we look forward to brightening your day.
